ABOUT BAR SOAP

Q1

Will bar soaps make my skin dry?

My Naked Bar soaps are specially formulated to cleanse gently without drying out your skin. We use the traditional cold process method, which produces glycerin as a natural by-product that we retain in the soap to help keep your skin soft and hydrated.

Instead of synthetic surfactants, our soaps lather with saponified natural, plant-based oils that are far gentler on your skin barrier.

Many of our customers have sensitive, dry, or eczema-prone skin, so we’re incredibly mindful about the ingredients we choose and the way we formulate. Each bar is thoughtfully crafted to be both moisturising and soothing. So you can enjoy a cleansing experience that’s kind and gentle to your skin.

Q2

Why did my bar soap become soft or mushy?

At My Naked Bar, our soaps are handcrafted using the cold process method, which naturally retains glycerin, a natural ingredient that helps keep your skin soft and moisturised.

However, glycerin is also a humectant, meaning it draws moisture from the air. So if your bar is left sitting in water or stored in a damp space (like a sealed container or a dish without sufficient drainage), it can absorb all that moisture, causing it to become soft or mushy over time

💡Here are the tips to keep your soap firm and lasting longer:

  • Let your soap dry completely between uses

  • Use a soap dish with good drainage and airflow

  • Avoid letting it sit in water or near constant splashes

Here’s our recommendation for the (almost) perfect soap dish that meets nearly all our criteria to help every soap bar last longer.

With just a little care, your soap will stay firm, last longer, and give you a better experience from the very first use to the last little sliver.

Q3

Aren’t bar soaps unhygienic?

Bar soaps are safe and perfectly hygienic to use. The naturally alkaline nature of bar soaps makes it a poor environment for bacteria and even mold to grow. So while it’s not impossible for bacteria to reside on the surface of the soap bars, a good rinse and proper lather will physically ‘lift’ them from the soaps and our hands and wash them away with water, so there’s really no need even for the soap bars to be antibacterial.

So, use your bar soaps with peace of mind and there’s no need to cover them up in the bathroom. Sharing the same bar soap with your family is ok too.

If you need more convincing why soaps may work even better than an anti-bacterial sanitiser, here’s a more scientific read.

Q4

How to Use a bar soap?

Using bar soap is easy, not much different from using your regular shower gel from a bottle.

  • Wet the bar and your hands/face/body

  • Rub the soap between your palms to create a lather

  • Apply the lather to your wet skin, then rinse off

Our bars are formulated to lather easily so you can enjoy and even elevate your shower experience with ease.

Should I rub the soap directly on my skin?

For longer-lasting bars, we recommend lathering in your hands first and applying the lather to wet skin. But if you prefer, you can also rub the bar directly on your skin or use a washcloth or sisal soap bag for even more lather and exfoliation.

Q5

Where should I store my bar soap?

For best results, store your bar soap in a dry, well-ventilated spot.

We recommend using:

  • A soap dish with good drainage

  • A soap bag that allows air to circulate

Avoid placing your soap in a sealed container or spots where shower splashes can fall on it, as this can cause it to soften or melt faster.

💡 Want a soap dish that works well with our bars? Here’s our recommendation for the (almost) perfect soap dish that meets nearly all our criteria as the perfect soap dish to help every soap last longer.

ABOUT MY NAKED BAR SOAPS

Q4

Q4

Q1

How are My Naked Bar soaps made? Are they all locally produced in Singapore?

Each and every of My Naked Bar soaps are designed and formulated from scratch by our founder,

Li Ting and handcrafted by her in Singapore. They are produced in small batches, sometimes 1kg at a time for complex designs. After crafting, every bar is put aside for curing for at least a month before they are released for sale.

Q4

Q4

Q2

Does every bar use the same base formula? How should I go about choosing the most suitable bar for myself?

One of the vision of our founder is Inclusivity in soaps, meaning we hope that everyone who wants to try a bar soap, is able to find a suitable one for themselves, hence the reason for our extensive collection of soap bars.

We design every bar differently, from the base oil formulation to the additives and scents chosen. With each new bar, we often have a real person or a skin condition in mind to guide us in our choice of ingredients and formulation design.

To help users navigate our extensive range of soap bars, we've grouped them in the following collections: Eczema/Psoriasis friendly, Deep Cleansing Clay, Youthful Radiance, Exfoliating Spa, and Home and Living.

Q4

Q4

Q3

Why are My Naked Bar soaps more expensive than off the shelf commercial bar soaps?

The price of My Naked Bar soaps reflects the care, quality, and intention behind each bar.

Unlike mass-produced soaps, our bars are crafted by hand using the traditional cold process method in small batches, then cured for a minimum of 4 weeks before they head out to our users. During the crafting process, glycerin is naturally produced as a by-product and retained within every bar, and not extracted for sale or other uses. This natural humectant draws moisture to the skin after use, making our soaps skin-friendly for all skin types.

In comparison, the glycerin in mass commercial bars are often extracted for sale to cosmetics or pharmaceutical companies for better profit, hence there's often a preconception that bar soaps are drying. Sometimes the commercial bars are not soaps, but synthetic detergent (syndet) in a bar form.

Across our collections, we craft our soap bars with high quality plant-based oils and botanicals that are gentle even on sensitive skin and kinder to the environment.

Q4

Q4

Q4

Why are My Naked Bar soaps a more sustainable option?

At My Naked Bar, sustainability is at the heart of what we do.

Fundamentally, the carbon footprint to transport liquid shower gel is several times higher than that for bar soap since it is primarily made up of water. On the contrary, with a bar soap, you only add water to activate the lather when needed.

Packaging-wise, our bars require no plastic bottles or pumps, thus helping to cut down on landfill waste and plastic pollution. Further, we use upcycled milk cartons to package our soaps, giving waste a second life and reducing the need for new materials. Beyond introducing bar soaps as a zero waste swap to more of the community, our playful approach with packaging is intended to start conversations around the climate issues and inspire a low waste mindset and lifestyle.

Production-wise, My Naked Bar soaps are handcrafted on demand in small batches using the cold process method - a more energy-efficient relative to industrial soap production and even the hot process method.

Choosing My Naked Bar isn’t just good for your skin, it’s a step toward a lower-waste, lower-carbon lifestyle.

Q4

Q4

Q5

Ingredients

What is Glycerin? and how is it good for our skin?

Glycerin is a humectant that is able to draw moisture from the environment and to our skin. By doing so, it helps to keep our skin supple even after cleansing. This is especially helpful for friends with dry and sensitive skin, e.g. with eczema / psoriasis conditions who cannot afford to have their skin dry out.

Even for friends with no skin conditions, by preventing our skin from drying out, there's a lower chance of our skin barrier breaking down, and hence helps us maintain healthy skin.

How is my naked bar soap different from other commercial bar soaps?

My Naked Bar soaps are handmade in small batches using the traditional cold process method, with natural, plant-based oils. This gentle method retains glycerin, a natural by-product that draws moisture to the skin and helps to keep it soft, nourished, and healthy.

In contrast, many commercial bars and not soaps, but mass-produced using synthetic detergents and fillers that can strip the skin of its natural oils. For the real soaps commercially produced, glycerin may have been removed during production hence explaining the really affordable pricing.

Are all your soap bars vegan?

Yes, all our soaps are 100% vegan. We do not use any animal-derived ingredients, including honey, dairy milk, or beeswax.

Do you use palm oil in your soaps?

No, all our soaps do not contain palm oil. While the topic around sustainable palm oil is a controversial one, we have chosen to go palm-free to make our soaps accessible to a bigger community, including users who prefer no palm oils in their soaps.

Are all your ingredients natural?

Yes, we use only natural plant-based carrier oils with additives such as botanicals, clays and 100% pure essential oils for additional skin and wellness benefits to our soaps. We do not add any synthetic fragrances, artificial colouring, surfactants, preservatives or fillers to our soaps.

Q4

Q4

Q6

Scent

Does my naked bar use fragrance oils or essential oils?

We use only 100% natural essential oils in our soaps. Essential oils not only provide a gentle, natural scent, but also offer aromatherapeutic benefits and are kinder to sensitive skin.

Q4

Q4

Q7

Do My Naked Bar soaps lather well? How do I get a good lather?

We know how much our users love a rich, satisfying lather. So we’ve intentionally formulated our soap to lather easily, while still being gentle and moisturising on the skin.

Lathering works best when the soap and your hands are properly wet. Rub a rinsed bar between your wet palms until it creates a rich and bubbly or creamy foam. Then apply that lather to your body.

The first 2 uses of a new bar may require slightly more water on the soap to ‘activate’ the soap. Subsequently, you may only need to wet the soap bar once or twice to get sufficient lather for the entire shower..

Q4

Q4

Q8

How do I use My Naked Bar’s kitchen dish soap effectively?

It’s easy! Just follow these steps for best results:

  • Wet your sponge thoroughly.

  • Rub the sponge directly onto the dish soap bar (trust us, you don’t need to rub too many times).

  • Squeeze the sponge gently a few times to allow the soap and water to interact and create a rich lather. [This simple step is the key to cleaning greasy dishes efficiently with the least product usage and time.]

  • Wash your dishes as usual, then rinse clean.

💡 Tip: Let the soap bar dry between uses. For our midi Kitchen dish soaps, you can use the milk carton ‘dish’ with the spout facing down to hold your soap at the kitchen sink. As you use the soap, the milk carton may soften with repeated interaction with water, and you can simply replace it with the top of a square based milk carton. Feel free to ask us for an extra milk carton top when you order your kitchen dish soap.

Q4

Q4

Q9

How long does one bar typically last?

Great question, however it varies depending on usage frequency and habits. :)

  • If you're using it for both face and body twice a day, one bar usually lasts about 1 to 1.5 months. Some of our regular users can even stretch their soap bars to 2 months or more!

  • If you're using it only for your face, it can last 6 months or even more.

💡 Tip: Using just enough water each shower to lather and letting your bar dry properly between uses helps it last even longer!

Q4

Q4

Q10

Which soap is the best for eczema or sensitive skin?

All My Naked Bar soaps are crafted to be gentle and suitable for sensitive and eczema-prone skin. In our experience, they are more soothing than shower gels and commercial bar soaps. A good start would be to check out the soap bars in our Eczema/Psoriasis friendly series. For more severe Eczema or younger users (e.g. 2 years and below), we recommend the unscented bars like Vanilla Cocoa Swirl, Unscented Oatmeal, Calendula Maple Oats and Calendula Heart. If natural essential oils are well tolerated, you may like to try out our best sellers - Lavender Oatmeal, Turmeric Sunrise or Marshmallow Bubblegum.

If your skin responds well to our Eczema friendly collections, you can even start to explore our Deep Cleansing / Youthful Radiance collection so you have more options for your shower routines. Should you explore our Exfoliating Home Spa collection, please avoid direct contact of the salt bars on eczema-prone skin since friction should be avoided to prevent triggering flares.

Q4

Q4

Q11

Can I use My Naked Bar on both my face and body?

Yes, you can use the same bar on your face, body, and hands. Our soaps are gentle, moisturising, and suitable for daily use, even on sensitive or eczema-prone skin.

MILK CARTONS

This is a Paragraph. Click on "Edit Text" or double click on the text box to start editing the content and make sure to add any relevant details or information that you want to share with your visitors.

Q1

Why do you use used milk cartons to package your soaps?

Our unconventional soap packaging using milk cartons is our playful way of starting conversations around the climate issues with everyday Singaporeans. Through this casual approach, we hope to inspire more of the community to adopt a low waste mindset and lifestyle.

We chose to give milk cartons a second life so as to avoid using new packaging resources and to make our planet a little greener. They make a great choice because they are:

  • Waterproof and durable, perfect for protecting your soaps

  • Easy to clean and reuse

  • The right size for soap bars

  • Most importantly, they are readily available in many households. So everyone in the community can contribute and be part of our low-waste movement

Q2

Where do you get your milk cartons from?

Our cartons come from the Singapore community, caring individuals and families who collect, clean, and contribute. We call this community our Ripple Tribe.

Q3

What kinds of milk cartons do you accept?

We accept square-based milk/juice cartons with a white inner lining. We do not accept plant-based milk cartons e.g. Oatmilk, Almond Milk or rectangular UHT milk cartons as they are aluminium-lined. Please make sure they are thoroughly rinsed and completely dry before contributing.

Here’s a blogpost if you’d like more information or watch a video demonstration.

Q4

How do I wash and prepare my milk cartons for contribution?

  • Open the cap and add a dash of dish soap and some water

  • Close the cap and shake well ensuring the water touches all corners, top and bottom.

  • Repeat with just water until the dispensed water runs clear

  • Shake out excess water

  • Air/Sun-dry upside down for 2–3 days until completely dry

  • Do a final check — no stains, no odour

  • All done and ready for drop-off!

SENSITIVITY REACTION

This is a Paragraph. Click on "Edit Text" or double click on the text box to start editing the content and make sure to add any relevant details or information that you want to share with your visitors.

Q1

What should I expect when using the soap for the first time?

Most people notice their skin feels extra clean after the first wash, seemingly washing off any ‘residue’ left behind by prior commercial products. After a few days to a week, you may begin to feel your skin becoming softer, more balanced, and moisturised. This feeling is more pronounced on the face and palm.

Q2

What should I do if I experience a skin reaction?

If you notice irritation or discomfort after using the soap, we recommend you stop using it immediately. If the reaction persists, please consult your GP or dermatologist for advice.

Where there’s open wounds on the skin, it may negatively respond to any products applied. Through our personal experience, in such instances, 1-2 applications of steroidal cream may be helpful to close the wounds before switching to our soaps (coupled with moisturisers) and slowly nursing the skin towards stronger skin barrier.

When using our deep cleansing collection, should you notice more breakouts with the first few users, this could be the clays doing their work to purge congestions under the skin. Persist with the soap for 1-2 weeks more to see if the condition improves.

Q3

Where can I find the full ingredients list?

You can find the full list of ingredients for each soap on our website, under the product description section.

Due to hygiene reasons, we do not accept returns or exchanges for soap bars once they are dispatched.

If there is an issue with your order, please email us at mynakedbar@gmail.com with:

SOAP RECOMMENDATIONS

This is a Paragraph. Click on "Edit Text" or double click on the text box to start editing the content and make sure to add any relevant details or information that you want to share with your visitors.

Q1

Which soap is best for eczema or dry, sensitive skin?

Everyone’s skin is different, so there’s no best soap that works for everyone. Here are our suggestions on how to choose one that best suits your needs.

  • Soothing itch and inflamation: Turmeric Sunrise

  • Soothing sensitive skin: Lavender Oatmeal

  • Skin recovery & healing: Marshmallow Bubblegum

  • For babies (under 2 years) / Severe Eczema: Calendula Maple Oats / Calendula Heart / Vanilla Cocoa Swirl / Unscented Oatmeal

Q2

Are your soaps safe for babies or toddlers?

For babies under 2 years old, we recommend our non-scented soap range where we omit the use of even natural essential oils. Options include Calendula Maple Oats / Calendula Heart / Vanilla Cocoa Swirl / Unscented Oatmeal.

Q3

Which soap is best for acne-prone or combination skin?

Check out our Deep Cleansing Soap Bar Collection with soap bars that contain natural clay that helps to balance sebum and keep the pores clean and not clogged. Depending on the skin type and amount of skin sebum, try our Cucumber Aloe bar for combination skin or backne. For Oily Skin, try Black Mojo or Black or White. For dry skin or sensitive skin, try Rice Milk Soap Bar or Moroccan Red Clay.

Q4

What soap do you recommend for oily skin?

Black Mojo is ideal. It contains bentonite clay and activated charcoal, which help absorb excess oil, detox the skin, and reduce body odour.

Q5

What about dry skin?

We recommend Rice Milk. It is crafted with organic rice milk, avocado oil, shea butter, and maple for deep hydration.  It includes white kaolin clay - the gentlest in the clay family, making it suitable for dry and sensitive skin.

Q6

Do you offer both scented and unscented soaps?

Yes! We offer both scented and unscented options. Our most popular scent is Lavender Oatmeal. And our most popular unscented bars are Calendula Maple Oats.

Q7

Do you have a shampoo bar?

We’ve received many requests to offer a shampoo bar, however we’ve not done so for a reason. While our scalp loves a good soap bar, our hair is more accustomed to syndets (synthetic detergents) similar to our liquid shampoo that cleanses and lather using surfactants. To use a soap bar for the hair, it is necessary for the user to go through a transition period, potentially using hair rinse to aid with the transition before they can be successful with the switch.

We’ve come to realise there is a good community of people who have already successfully transitioned to using a natural soap bar for their hair and they have been unable to find local bars, resulting in them paying high shipping costs to ship from overseas sources.

And for this reason, I am committed to craft and make a shampoo soap bar accessible for this community of users. If you’d like to know of new soap launches, please subscribe to our mailing list and stay tuned for updates.

Q8

Do you offer a dishwashing bar?

Check out our Deep Cleansing Soap Bar Collection with soap bars that contain natural clay that helps to balance sebum and keep the pores clean and not clogged. Depending on the skin type and amount of skin sebum, try our Cucumber Aloe bar for combination skin or backne. For Oily Skin, try Black Mojo or Black or White. For dry skin or sensitive skin, try Rice Milk Soap Bar or Moroccan Red Clay.

Q9

What is a FAB Eraser and how do I use it?

Our FAB Eraser is a natural stain-removal bar for fabric.

How to use:

  • Wet fabric thoroughly

  • Rub bar directly on the stain

  • Lather. Easy stains may be removed straight away.

  • For stubborn and more difficult stains, leave concentrated lather  for 10–15 minutes (or overnight)

  • Wash as usual by hand or machine

Q10

Do your soaps exfoliate?

Our Exfoliating Home Spa collection consists of salt scrub bars that exfoliates and cleanses at the same time.

Choose from these salt scrub bars for gentle exfoliation:

  • Sweet Bouquet Salt

  • Charcoal Tea Tree Salt

  • Aura Renew Himalayan Salt

Which soap is your best seller?

Each of our soap bars have its own strong user following. However, the top 3 customer favourites are:

  • Lavender Oatmeal

We recommend Ginger Bliss, known for its warming, soothing properties, and crafted with cocoa butter to help with stretch marks and soothe dry skin after birth. Perfect for postpartum care.

Q13

Is there a subscription option for regular users?

Yes, we run a subscription program for our Eczema friendly soap collection. You can subscribe to receive your favourite soap every 2 months with 10% off.

Options include:

  • Eczema-Friendly (single bar) – 6 or 12 months

  • "Surprise Me" Bundle – 6 or 12 months

To minimise carbon footprint and save shipping costs for you, our program delivers 2 bars every 2 months, instead of one bar monthly. You will be charged every 2 months prior to your next scheduled subscription delivery.
